International Consultant – Plant and Crop Resilience

FAO is implementing a Global Environmental Facility project, titled “Facilitating agrobiodiversity (ABD) conservation and sustainable use to promote food and nutritional resilience in Tajikistan”.  The project objective is the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Securing of the national and globally significant agrobiodiversity and the associated knowledge and cultural aspects of traditional agro-ecosystems of Tajikistan.

Tasks and responsibilities

  •    Prepare training content for professional staff and field staff.
    •    Support National Consultants to conduct a gap analysis of indigenous Agrobiodiversity (ABD)
    •    Support the completion of gap analysis of indigenous ABD
    •    Support the local community engagement in crop landrace on-farm conservation of diversity
    •    Provide a methodology to identify and conserve landraces and CWR within the project-targeted areas
    •    Support the development of action plan for on farm landrace and CWR conservation
    •    Provide methodology for mapping and defining hotspot areas for on-farm conservation
    •    Guide National Consultants to create a national Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) inventory
    •    Support the local community engagement in crop landrace on-farm conservation of diversity
  • Minimum Requirements
    •    University degree in agronomy, botany, plant protection, environment and conservation
    •    Five years of relevant experience in relevant programs and projects,
    •    Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of any other FAO language. For PSA, working knowledge of English.
