ODI Bites

ODI Bites is the Overseas Development Institute’s new series of short online conversations set on giving you big ideas that are easy to digest. First up is on 2 June: sign up to watch Ambassador David Donoghue and Amina Khan discuss the impacts of Covid-19 on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The integrated nature of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development poses special challenges for policy-makers worldwide, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been widely noted that prior to this crisis, the world was already falling behind in its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the commitment to ‘leave no one behind’. Now with Covid-19, reaching these goals is an even greater challenge.

We discuss the likely impacts, focusing particularly on the role of synergies between the Covid-19 response and the Global Goals. We also explore the trade-offs that will occur and potential mitigating mechanisms so that global efforts on achieving the SDGs are not hindered.
