Request for News or Contact Information for Roy Hewson

This is the fascinating story of a request from a medical doctor living in Brazil, who was born in what was then British Guiana.

She has been researching her early family history in the Rupununi, Guyana. She is particularly keen to trace a Roy Hewson, who had spent a period of time at the St Ignatius Livestock Farm in the Rupununi, Guiana, in the early 1960s.

Just recently, she came across the book by TAAI member Peter Thompson ‘One of a Thousand’, that we had posted on the TAAI website . She found that Roy Hewson was mentioned by Peter in the section describing his visit to Rupununi. Through the book, she has managed to contact Peter, seeking more information about Roy Hewson, especially any photographs, or news of his travels post-Guyana.

Peter has since responded with some information that he had about Roy. Apparently Roy himself completed a BSc Agriculture from Nottingham University in 1957. He and Peter were contemporaries on the Cambridge/ICTA course in 1957-59. Roy was then posted to St Ignatius Station in Rupununi, and, in his book, Peter described meeting him there. Peter met him again in FAO Rome in 1978, before Roy was posted to Canberra as FAO Liaison Officer to CSIRO, but he has had minimal contact since then.
