TAAI Vice-Chairman attempts ironman-distance triathlon to raise funds for Cancer and Alzheimer’s Research

A message from Dr Paul Harding (TAAI Vice-Chairman)

Dear friends,

I am attempting my first full ironman distance race, the Nottingham Outlaw Triathlon, on 25 July.  I will be competing in the 70-74 age group, and I am hoping to complete the 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike ride, and 42.2 km marathon run, in about 16 hours.

In participating in this event, I am raising funds for Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK – my target is to raise £2,000 for each charity.  The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated just how much adequately funded medical research can achieve – wouldn’t it be great if we could now achieve similar success with research into cancer and Alzheimer’s.

I know that 2020 has been a difficult year, and I also know that many of you already support charities, including Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK, so please do not feel under any obligation to support my fundraising, just because you have been sent this message.  However, if you would like to support either or both of these two worthy charities, please take a look at the two links below.  The first one is my Just Giving Page for Cancer Research UK, and the second is for Alzheimer’s Research UK:

I have already paid for my registration and accommodation costs, so other than Just Giving’s small administration fee, 100% of every donation will go straight to the charities.  Please also consider utilising your Gift Aid options, in order to add a further 25% from the government.

I will be regularly updating my pages with the latest posts on progress (just in case you might be interested!), and I will of course provide a race report as soon as possible after the event.

Thank you for reading this far, and a particular thank you, in advance, if you do decide to support this fundraising effort.  Please feel free to forward this message to friends who might also be interested.

With best wishes for a healthy and successful 2021,

Paul
