Zero Tillage Technology in Jute Cultivation: A Successful Venture in West Bengal

The paper is included because it explores the use of Zero Tillage (ZT) in Jute. The researchers used farmer participatory demonstrations on jute using ZT in W. Bengal.

They obtained a significant yield increase for jute with ZT compared to conventional practices of around 25%. They attributed this to increased plant population, increased plant height and basal diameter of the stem. They also saved significant labour by using herbicides to control weeds that also resulted in higher net returns.
